Reading the reviews here offers little to no conclusive evidence whether this place is good or bad it actually seems to be little of both according to many. Well I decided to spin the roulette wheel and try them out being they are relatively close to where I was staying and although I probably passed 57 Mexican Restaurants before arriving here I wanted a different experience then offered by most of the chain Mexican Restaurants although that would of been a safer option.
It's Wednesday evening around 6 PM and this place is empty except for one booth on the far left side of the restaurant. The restaurant is rather large and appeared to be very clean and well maintained we found a seat on the same wall near the front of the restaurant. Our server arrived with menus in had and ready to grab us a few drinks I usually prefer Dos Equis if they promise me there are really cold, draft or bottle I have no preference - this one arrived ice cold with a fresh lime and the neck of the bottled rolled in salt along with fresh chips and salsa, the red salsa is served warm and has a kick and the green on is simply puréed Serrano peppers with a little olive oil although the Scoville rating of the serrano pepper is only 10,000 to 23,000 they are notably hotter than the jalapeño pepper and this one will light you up.
We ordered some queso dip while placing our dinner orders - I ordered the Fajita a La Mexicana Platillo with fresh fried corn tortillas while my business associate ordered the Sopes Platillo, both meals were excellent so there were absolutely no issues with the food, the service was a little slow but then again everything was served up fresh and hot. We did struggle a little with our server's English or rather she struggled with the level of my Spanish but it's wasn't a deal breaker and everything came as ordered. Honestly I'd return if promised the same experience it was kinda what I expected... -

DONT COME HERE! we're from out of town and we decided to try this place. But the service sucked! My dad didn't get his plate till everyone else was done because they messed up on his order. And they were pretty pricey!

Because this is the closest Tex-Mex restaurant to my residence I eat at Pueblo Viejo at least once a month and have been doing so for the past few years. That does not mean to indicate this is a good restaurant - it's not.
The cooks at Pueblo Viejo over salt the food. They even put salt in the salsa that comes out to your table with the chips while you are ordering your meal. Seems Pueblo Viejo does this to sell more beer.
I wanted the lunch special which was displayed on the chalkboard stand outside the entrance. They would not serve the special to me because I arrived in the middle of the afternoon: no big deal.
During this visit I ate an order of chili con queso, and a chimichanga. They were passable although the queso wasn't even warm.
The Men's lavatory here was a mess as usual they had soap back up on the wall, no paper towels except for those strewn around the floor and in the trash can (they don't always have a trash can) neither the urinal or toilet had been flushed and yes, the usual standing water was on the floor.
I tend to think of Pueblo Viejo as a restaurant of last resort. I'm giving this restaurant three stars because I do return to eat here. This eatery is convenient for me, not much else can be said that's positive. There are significantly better Mexican / Tex-Mex restaurants available. -

We had a terrible experience here today. My friend and I came in for happy hour around 4:30. There was a menu on the bar advertising happy hour from 4-7 (see attacthed pic). I specifically asked the bartender/waitress about the happy hour and she referenced the menu. We each ordered the $5 happy hour margarita, and they were very good. We had another one, still within the happy hour time. When the bill came, we were charged $9 for each one.
I asked the bartender about the discrepency, and she mumbled something about "checking on it". 10 minutes later my friend also asked her about our bill, and got the same response. I flagged her down again and she said that the manager said that there is no happy hour on Friday. I asked to speak to the manager and she came back with her phone and the "manager" allegedly on the line. She again said that the manager was saying that there is no happy hour on Friday. I said that the menu does not state that and that we specifically asked her about it before we ordered. They wouldn't budge.
The extremely rude attitude by the bartender and the virtual manager changed our experience from a very positive one to a very negative one. I was already planning on bringing my girlfriend back to eat and drink the very good margaritas.
Now I will not return, nor will my friend. Horrible management! -

Some friends recommended this location so we sung by to check it out. The place was relatively sparse for a Friday night, but it wasn't quiet. They had a karaoke lady singing in both English and Spanish and trying to get people to sing. Our friends let us know what if no one else stepped up, she would just sing all night.
Service was a bit slow which was surprising considering how empty the place was. Maybe 4-5 tables were full the entire time we were there, and they had two different waitresses covering the area. It took forever to get our drinks, and when we inquired about desserts, we were told that they were pretty much out of everything but tres leches.
Drinks were surprisingly pricey. We'll probably give this place another chance on a non-Friday given our friends' recommendation and the fact that we didn't actually try the food at all.
